Of Principles and Friendships

Posted: September 25, 2012 in liberty

I continue to lose friends, family and even shipmates who tire of me railing against unconstitutional encroachments on our Liberty and arguing that people need to take off their R and D team shirts and restore a little virtue, morality and statesmanship in our society.

I guess I could relax; hunt, fish, brew my beer and accept that I’m 50 and I’ll be called home before the worst hits us.

But somehow I have trouble looking at my kids and smiling with that approach.

So, if my stance against the NDAA, CISPA, FISA, patriot Acts and unconstitutional foreign intervention, attacking any country we like with drones and expecting no reaction (it’s called blowback) and sweeping unconstitutional executive orders then you should take this advice.

Do us both a favor and unfriend me before you come to hate me; because I will not stop fighting these usurpations while I still draw breath. It’s bad enough that my children are already saddled with a debt that they will never see paid off and had nothing to do with creating.

So, take care of yourselves and if you have time, give these old words some thought:

The Guy in the Glass

When you get what you want in your struggle for pelf,
And the world makes you King for a day,
Then go to the mirror and look at yourself,
And see what that guy has to say.

For it isn’t your Father, or Mother, or Wife,
Who judgement upon you must pass.
The feller whose verdict counts most in your life
Is the guy staring back from the glass.

He’s the feller to please, never mind all the rest,
For he’s with you clear up to the end,
And you’ve passed your most dangerous, difficult test
If the guy in the glass is your friend.

You may be like Jack Horner and “chisel” a plum,
And think you’re a wonderful guy,
But the man in the glass says you’re only a bum
If you can’t look him straight in the eye.

You can fool the whole world down the pathway of years,
And get pats on the back as you pass,
But your final reward will be heartaches and tears
If you’ve cheated the guy in the glass.
